The Swiss Museum of Transport - something for the whole family

The Swiss Museum of Transport Association was originally founded with the aim of creating a forum and showcase for transport and communication in the interests of the founding partners. The Swiss Museum of Transport has since developed into a successful technical museum of great national and international importance - in effect the national museum for transport and mobility. The focus of the collection is therefore on transport technology and mobility, the development of which is presented in the various exhibition areas, taking into account the social and cultural-historical dimension. Around 2,000 historical objects are currently on display at the Swiss Museum of Transport, including unique exhibits such as Switzerland's first railroad train (the Spanisch-Brötli-Bahn), the first successful Swiss airplane (the Dufaux biplane) and the first Migros sales trolley. The collections of the Museum of Transport also include a further 4,000 objects and over 150,000 documents on the history of transportation, which are kept in the Museum's archives and storage rooms and are accessible for study and research purposes. The original idea of a forum lives on alongside the museum's activities to this day, as the Museum of Transport has always been a host and venue for a wide variety of events on the subject of “the past, present and future of transport and mobility”.

Successful for 50 years

In 2009, the Swiss Museum of Transport celebrated its 50th anniversary. A Swiss success story continues.
