Travers - the gorges of the Areuse
The Val de Travers, characterized by the watchmaking industry, stretches from Lake Neuchâtel right across the Jura to the border with France. Asphalt mines and the rocky circus of the Creux du Van are just as much a part of the Val de Travers as a sparkling wine cellar and steam trains. However, the secret star of the valley is the "Green Fairy".
By car: from St-Aubin, Couvet or Travers, first on a tarmac road, then on a tarmac path to the Soliat restaurant. The Creux du Van cirque is about 300m on foot from the restaurant.
As parking spaces in Noiraigue are limited, we recommend arriving by train if possible. If the parking lots are full, we recommend parking in Travers or Couvet and taking the train from there to Noiraigue. To reach the rocks of the Creux du Van, prefer a circular hike or an electric bike ride from Noiraigue.
