The Rhine Gorge - The Swiss Grand Canyon

The Rhine Gorge (Ruinaulta) between Reichenau and Ilanz is not called the “Swiss Grand Canyon” for nothing. It is probably one of the most spectacular landscapes in Graubünden and is unique even in the Alps. Experience pure adrenaline while river rafting in the wild gorges or hike along rugged rock formations. An easily accessible hiking trail and bike routes along the Rhine also offer you great opportunities to barbecue, create stone figures or bathe your feet. If you prefer to take it easy, you can also discover the Rhine Gorge by train or post bus.

A huge natural event 9500 years ago shaped the landscape around Flims. Learn more about the largest landslide in the Alps on the easy hike through the Flims forest. The excursion with a GeoGuide Sardona takes you past Lake Cauma, the impressive Rhine Gorge and on to Lake Cresta.

Discover the most diverse natural spectacle in the Alps - on foot, by bike or on the water. The forests, lakes and villages around the Rhine Gorge also offer natural experiences for young and old. It is therefore important that you observe the protected areas along the Rhine Gorge and respect the ban on entering them from April 1 to July 15. Dogs must be kept on a lead to protect them.
