The Rhine Falls - a magnificent natural spectacle!

Over 15,000 years ago, the Rhine was forced into a new riverbed by ice age earth movements. The Rhine Falls were formed on the border between hard limestone and soft gravel. Over a width of 150 meters, several hundred cubic meters of water thunder down 23 meters every second.

And in the middle of it all stands a mighty rock, defying the elements for thousands of years. The rock can be reached via a Rhine Falls tour, where you can experience the natural spectacle up close. Almost in the middle of the waterfall you can also stand on the platforms that are partly built over the Rhine. The castles of Wörth and Laufen can be reached by boat, and there is even a canoe rental for the really daring.

The grounds of Laufen Castle have been shining in new splendor since March 2010. A children's playground and the "Historama" (interactive exhibition on the Rhine Falls) have been set up next to the new visitor center. The new adventure trail with a double elevator system and the Belvedereweg allows barrier-free access to the natural spectacle of the Rhine Falls.

Boat trip on the Rhine Falls
Would you like to experience the Rhine Falls with (almost) all your senses or would you prefer a boat trip down the Rhine along one of the most beautiful river landscapes on the Rhine? The rock trip No. 1 Yellow Line is without a doubt the highlight of the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen.

Loud thundering and roaring is guaranteed at Europe's largest waterfall, as the water plunges from a height of around 23 m. In the midst of this natural spectacle there is the unique opportunity to climb the central rock. It is not that easy to reach, but it is really worth it, because the giant is something very special.

Each of the boat trips is unique and unforgettable.
