The Bernina Express - From the glaciers to the palm trees

A trip on the Bernina Express allows you to experience the beauty of the Alpine region from an extraordinary perspective. Through the panoramic windows of the Rhaetian Railway, which runs through Graubünden as a ribbon linking languages and cultures, the natural landscape comes very close. Particularly impressive: the impressive glacier worlds at Piz Palü and Morteratsch or the fantastic views on Alp Grüm and at the Montebello curve. New highlights await after every tunnel and around every bend. For example the 90 m high Soliser and Landwasser viaduct. Or the circular viaduct near Brusio, which sends the train on the Bernina line downhill in fascinating spirals. From Valposchiavo with its southern flair, the journey continues to Tirano in Italy, where the Bernina Express bus takes you through the Valtellina wine region to Lugano between March and October.

This journey takes you on the classic route of the Bernina Express. This route is world-famous as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most spectacular Alpine crossings. You travel through 55 tunnels, over 196 bridges and climb gradients of up to 70 percent.

Crossing the Alps on the Bernina Express is certainly one of the most spectacular. Along the way, the Bernina Express rolls over the 65-metre-high Landwasser Viaduct, the landmark of the Rhaetian Railway and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in cinematic style. Travelers pass phenomenal sights such as the Montebello curve with a view of the Bernina massif. Or the Morteratsch Glacier, the three lakes Lej Pitschen, Lej Nair and Lago Bianco, Alp Grüm and the circular viaduct at Brusio.

In summer, the journey can be extended on the Bernina Express bus from Tirano to Lugano.
