Lucerne – The picturesque city, nestled between lake and mountains

Lucerne lies in the middle of Switzerland on Lake Lucerne, at the gateway to Central Switzerland. The capital of the canton of the same name, with its many sights, is one of Europe's most attractive tourist destinations.

Discover Lucerne
In Lucerne, the Seebrücke (lake bridge) is the best photo spot of all. You can enjoy fantastic views of the city, lake, and mountains from the Musegg Wall with its nine towers. Between the two iconic wooden bridges over the Reuss River lies the Jesuit Church with its onion domes. The path through the picturesque old town with its squares and fountains leads you to another popular photo subject, the "Lion of Lucerne."

Chapel Bridge and Old Town
The Chapel Bridge, with its cycle of paintings, is the undisputed landmark of Lucerne. It runs from the New Town past the Water Tower to the Rathausquai (town hall quay). Stop at a café by the Reuss River before strolling through the beautiful old town, passing historic squares such as the Weinmarkt (wine market) or the Kornmarkt (corn market) with the town hall. The facade paintings and the many shops are trademarks. Together with the short distances, these make the old town perfect for a shopping trip.

Lucerne and Lake Lucerne
Start your tour around the lake at the unique KKL (Convention Center for the Performing Arts) near the train station. A little further on is the summer-friendly "Inseli" park. Across the street, stroll along the wide lakeside promenade lined with elegant hotels to the Museum of Transport. In the warmer months, explore the lake basin in a pedal boat and end the day at the lakeside resort.

Around Lucerne
The best way to explore Lake Lucerne's fjord landscape is by boat. Discover the region's top excursion destinations: Brunnen on the "Swiss Path," Vitznau with Mount Rigi, or Alpnachstad with Mount Pilatus. Lucerne's local mountain boasts a fondue gondola and Switzerland's largest rope park on the Fräkmüntegg. The "Golden Round Trip" takes you to the most beautiful spots around the "Drachenberg" (Dragon Mountain).
