Innovative projects from the world of UVEK
The Department of Transport (Uvek) has announced that fast charging stations for electric cars will be installed at most motorway rest areas by 2030. This will equip around a hundred rest areas throughout Switzerland and some of them will be further developed into charging hubs.
The Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (Uvek) announced fast charging stations "at all 100 rest areas along the national roads" on Monday on the online portal X. This does not apply to literally all rest areas, as a spokesman for the Federal Roads Office (Astra) told the Keystone-SDA news agency, but to the majority.
The federal government wants to make its contribution to decarbonization, i.e. the move away from fossil fuels, it said. In February, a call was made for project proposals: five lots with eleven plots each. According to Astra, 55 applications were received by the deadline on May 12. These are currently being evaluated.
The Uvek's "Electromobility Roadmap" sets out, among other things, the goal of setting up 20,000 publicly accessible charging stations in Switzerland by the end of 2025. The fast charging stations on the motorways would be part of this. (sda/lyn)
